What is an Entropion?
In Entropion, the eyelid rolls inward, and eyelashes may rub against the eyeball.
Entropion Symptoms
This may cause tearing, eye redness, foreign body sensation, light sensitivity, and mucous discharge.
Entropion Causes
The most common cause of Entropion is eyelid laxity and stretching of the eyelid tendons and muscles. Other causes include, trauma, scarring, chronic inflammation, burns, prior eyelid surgery, and tumors.
Depending on the cause, Entropion can be managed with anti-inflammatory drops and ointments. This is often followed by outpatient surgery.
Entropion Surgery
Surgery is aimed at addressing the loose eyelid, detached tendon, and eyelid muscle weakness. It is performed as an outpatient procedure under twilight anesthesia. If a patient is unable to undergo surgery, an office procedure or Botox may provide temporary relief in select cases.
