Maryland Dentist Reads Just Minutes After Raindrop Inlay

RainDrop Near Vision Inlay for correction of presbyopia | Eye Associates of Washington DC | Mark Whitten MDJust minutes after the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay was placed in her left eye, Dr. Jennifer Sokolosky could read without glasses!

We are proud to be the leading practice in the Washington, D.C. area to offer the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay for the correction of presbyopia.  Dr. Mark Whitten performed Dr. Sokolosky’s procedure this week in our Spring Valley office.

The Raindrop inlay is a revolutionary development.  We are now able to offer vision correction for presbyopia in patients who do not need cataract surgery.

The interview (below) with NBC’s Barbara Harrison (@NBCBarbara) was taken just minutes after her procedure!

Newly Approved Procedure Could Help You Read Without Glasses

Dr. Mark Whitten is the first in the D.C. area to perform the new “raindrop” surgery.

For Dr. Whitten, this naturally compliments his extraordinary experience with LASIK.  Inserting the inlay involves a very similar procedure to the laser vision correction procedure.

Dr. Sokolosky’s Story

Dr. Sokolosky is 52 years old.  She practices family and cosmetic dentistry in Clarksville, Maryland at MD Smiles.

For the past 3-5 years her near vision has been getting worse.  To compensate, she has had to use specialized “loupes” – glasses which allow her to see in fine detail – when operating and performing dental procedures.

“I was constantly misplacing the loupes I needed to care for my patients .  My staff became sick and tired of looking for my glasses all day!”

The main motivation for seeking a solution for her presbyopia, however, were her children.  Dr. Sokolosky and her husband have 3 children, two of which require constant supervision and help with their year-round homework.

“Constantly putting on and taking off  losing my reading glasses.  It was not only a chore, but also a distraction to the kids.  It was my children that really started my search for a solution for my presbyopia.”

EAWDC to the Rescue!

Initial attempts at finding a solution involved visits to the Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute in Baltimore.  To her disappointment, she was advised to simply continue with reading glasses.  They had no other solution for her.

Years ago, her husband had LASIK performed by Dr. Whitten.  He suggested she find Dr. Whitten.

Dr. Shilpa Rose was the first to examine Dr. Sokolosky for her presbyopia.  Dr. Rose determined that Dr. Sokolosky would be an excellent candidate for the Raindrop Near Vision Inlay.  Would she considerate it?

I Want to Be the First!

There was no hesitation.  She was so excited to finally have a solution to correct her presbyopia.  In addition, she had full confidence in Dr. Whitten, having performed over 150,000 LASIK procedures.

She wanted to be the first!

The procedure was performed just the other day at our Spring Valley office.  The procedure was painless and took about 10-15 minutes.

Minutes later she was reading the same magazine, without glasses, that was previously impossible to read just before surgery!

We’ll follow up and track her progress shortly.
